Jim Jordan as Speaker? You’ve got to be kidding me.
By now, you've probably seen the chaos unfolding in the House of Representatives as the Republican majority struggles to elect a Speaker after it ousted Kevin McCarthy.
MAGA Republicans have again brought the House to a standstill with their extremism, chaos, and division. For 16 days, the House has been without a Speaker and unable to legislate.
Now, Republicans are pushing hard to make MAGA extremist Jim Jordan the Speaker.
Jim Jordan is as MAGA as they come. He is endorsed by Donald Trump, and worked to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The January 6 commission even called Jordan a "significant player" in the attack on the Capitol.
Unsurprisingly, his legislative record is no better. He's championed cuts to Medicare and Social Security, supports a nationwide abortion ban without any exceptions, and has voted repeatedly to shut down the government. To top it off, he was an original founder of the Freedom Caucus — the far-right group of House Republicans that has repeatedly thrown the chamber into chaos over the last 10 years.
It's unconscionable that someone like Jim Jordan could get this close to the House Speakership. It would be laughable if it weren't so downright terrifying.
Republicans' latest manufactured crisis has left Americans without a governing House of Representatives, all just weeks before another looming government shutdown. The GOP has become the party of MAGA extremism.
If Republicans are able to take back the Senate majority, the MAGA chaos will continue.
