Wyden Firsts
Throughout his years of public service, Ron Wyden is often the first to identify, expose and solve major challenges for Oregon and our country. He has achieved landmark wins in job creation, health care reform, tech policy, environmental protection and other priorities.
In Congress, Ron has focused on problems faced by Oregonians -- some created by the government and some the government could solve. His efforts range from securing better, more affordable health care for every Oregonian to supporting and empowering families. He continues to work for a stronger economy that provides opportunity for all and unfair advantages for none. He has stood up - sometimes alone - for our cherished civil rights and liberties while making sure the digital future protects them rather than erodes them. He has fought for our soldiers, sailors and airmen against those who would profiteer on the back of our brave servicemembers and their families. He continues to prioritize the protection of our outdoor treasures and the jobs and clean air and water they support. Finally, regardless of the party in power, he has fought for real government accountability for the people it is supposed to be working for. In doing so, Ron battled some of America’s most powerful special interests: telecommunications monopolies, health insurance companies, Big Oil, Wall Street corporate executives seeking bailout bonuses, tobacco interests, and more.
With millions of workers and small businesses desperate during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ron secured real relief: For his work securing the most generous jobless assistance in our nation's history, he was called “the hero of the pandemic economy” by a Nobel prize-winning economist; and he organized bipartisan tax relief for small businesses battling to hold on.
Here are some additional examples of his efforts.
