Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Yesterday, I pressed Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. — Trump's nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services — about his long and disturbing history of peddling and profiting off of anti-vaccine and anti-science conspiracy theories. He refused to take any accountability and gave me zero reassurance that he no longer holds these dangerous views.
He couldn't answer basic questions such as, "Is measles deadly?" He failed to clarify his role in one of the most deadly measles outbreaks in recent history in Samoa. Every dodge and weave made it all the more clear that he's deeply unqualified — and a truly reckless pick — to run our nation's health care systems.
It was equally alarming to see Kennedy struggle to grasp essential details of programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. In the wake of millions of Americans' health care being put in jeopardy by Donald Trump's reckless attempt to freeze federal funds earlier this week, the last thing we can afford is an HHS secretary who doesn't even understand the job he's nominated to do.
RFK Jr. made clear he is unqualified and untrustworthy to be our nation's health care chief, and will not push back on Trump and Republicans' plans to rip health care away from millions of Americans and put insurance and drug companies back in the driver's seat of our health care.
Our nation and its people deserve so, so much better, and I remain laser-focused on pushing back against any plan that doesn't improve care and bring down costs for families.
