Re: Trump’s Friday night massacre
The goals of this new Trump administration are clear: grift from the pockets of hard-working Americans so that billionaires like Elon Musk can amass even more wealth and power.
In times like these, we must protect the levers of government that can expose corruption. So it was alarming when, on Friday night, Trump fired 17 independent inspectors general without informing Congress (as required by law).
Inspectors general are essential public servants who keep the public informed about the use (or misuse) of taxpayer dollars and the functions of federal agencies. The role was established in the wake of Watergate so that abuses of power on that level never happened again.
Less than a week in office and Trump has already sent the chilling signal that he's determined to test the limits of his power further than ever before. I pledge that I'll continue to use my platform to shed light on his corruption, and I stand firmly with the growing chorus of lawmakers demanding that the courts reverse Trump's dismissal of inspectors general.
More soon,
