A disgusting fear-mongering attempt
This week was the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade – a painful reminder of the freedom that millions of Americans lost when Roe was overturned by Donald Trump's Supreme Court justices.
As if to pour salt on the wound, this week, just hours after taking full control of Washington, Senate Republicans used their newfound majority to force a Senate vote on one of their most extreme attacks on reproductive freedom to date. The deceptively-titled "Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act" is nothing but a Trojan horse intended to fear-monger the American people and intimidate health care providers.
This bill would force expecting parents who have just been handed the news that their baby has a terminal illness or disease and will not survive, to endure the unthinkable in an already impossible situation. To make matters worse, it's also another attempt to threaten doctors and health care providers with legal action and jail time just for providing the care patients need.
This is another battle in Republicans' ongoing crusade against reproductive freedom and the right to privacy. And a shameless effort to put a politician in every exam room and bedroom in America.
Americans have the constitutional right to make their most intimate and personal decisions free from government intrusion.
It speaks volumes that one of the first actions by the GOP after regaining its power was to force a vote on this legislation.
Republicans talk a big game about being the party of "family values" and being "pro-life." The same party that blocked an extension of the Child Tax Credit and is gunning for massive cuts to food assistance programs and children's health insurance to pay for another round of tax cuts for the rich.
This is the Republican Party's true agenda on full display.
Thankfully, Democrats were able to block this bill from passing. This is a shining example of what's possible when the Democratic Party is united against Republicans' extremist agenda.
Our movement stands ready to defeat harmful policies in the Senate – and we will not cease our work to make progress for families.
Together, we'll continue to expose the GOP's extreme agenda and lay the groundwork to fight back at the ballot box in 2026.
