Look at what House Republicans are up to now…
Last month, a group of House Republicans called the "Republican Study Committee" released a budget proposal with some utterly extreme ideas.
How extreme? Here are some of the worst:
- Raising the retirement age
- Cutting Social Security
- Passing a national abortion ban
- Gutting Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
I've always believed that when someone states their policy goals, we should take them at their word. And this is no exception to that. That's why I'm doubling down to make sure that nothing in this budget proposal ever becomes law.
As long as I'm representing the people of Oregon in the U.S. Senate, I can guarantee you that I will fight with everything I've got to make sure any bill that restricts reproductive rights, harms health care programs, or threatens Americans' earned retirement benefits is not going to become law.
But our Senate majority is on the line in 2024. In 2020, we were barely able to win out with a razor-thin majority. It's never been more important that we defend and expand Democratic control of the Senate. The map is tough, and if Republicans gain just two seats, they'll remove one of the last bulwarks against the extremism coming out of the House.
Thank you,
Ron
