I'm not giving up
I know almost everything these days gets wrapped up in political divides, but here's something I'd think we all should be able to agree on: children should not live in poverty.
Just a few years ago, Democrats took unprecedented action to lift millions of kids out of poverty with the child tax credit. As a result, we made record strides in eliminating child poverty – nearly four million children saw their circumstances radically change for the better. Put simply: Democrats proved that direct cash payments can make a real difference to families in need.
One of my biggest disappointments of the last few years was that this child tax credit expansion was only temporary. I resolved to not let this issue be forgotten.
Just a few weeks ago, I was able to secure a bipartisan proposal to expand the child tax credit, and lift half a million kids out of poverty. My proposal has already passed the House, which gets us one step closer to reinstating this lifeline for millions of families.
In the coming days and weeks, I'm going to be working as hard as I can to get this plan across the finish line in the Senate and sent to the President's desk to be signed into law.
More soon,
Ron
