In 2024, it's time to mobilize
2023 started with the drama of House Republicans attempting to elect a new Speaker of the House. And after Kevin McCarthy gave promise after promise to the most extreme wing of his party, it wasn't hard to see that the chaos in the House was far from over.
McCarthy wound up ousted as Speaker in October because MAGA Republicans were angry that he avoided a government shutdown. And so for more than three weeks after that, we were forced to endure House Republicans' petty fights as they attempted to secure a potential replacement.
Finally, from the fray, Rep. Mike Johnson emerged and was elected the new Speaker of the House. It's obvious why he consolidated support — take a look at just a few of his positions:
- He orchestrated the effort to overturn the 2020 Presidential Election
- He proposed a nationwide abortion ban and celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade
- He's voiced his desire to make cuts to Medicare and Social Security
The Republican Party has shown us time and time again that it is well out of step with the challenges facing American families, and prefers to sow chaos rather than govern. And if we're not careful, the extremism that has gripped the House could take over the Senate next.
Oregon will see at least 3 competitive House races next year. And across the country, Democrats are defending a one-seat Senate majority and facing tough fights from Montana to Nevada to Ohio to Wisconsin to Pennsylvania.
I'm fighting hard to help Democrats mobilize in the races that will determine control of Congress, and I need your help to do it.
Grateful for your support,
Ron
