Making billionaires pay their fair share…finally.
Congress is approaching another budget fight, and you know what that means: a whole lot of Republican "concerns" about the deficit as cover to justify which lifeline programs they want to cut.
So allow me to offer a radical idea: what if we finally made billionaires pay their fair share of taxes – reducing the deficit and allowing the middle class to better share in the prosperity?
Enter: my Billionaires Income Tax. A plan to finally ensure billionaires pay their fair share, just like the rest of us.
A hard-working teacher or firefighter in Philomath, Oregon, doesn't get to call up an army of high-priced lawyers and accountants whenever they don't feel like paying their taxes. Working families pay taxes out of each paycheck, but the same rules don't apply to billionaires.
Think about it — if billionaires and the biggest corporations paid their fair share, we could make our country a better place to live, work, and raise a family for everyone, not just those at the very top. We could make much-needed investments in critical lifelines that Americans rely on like Medicare and Social Security, among others.
But making my plan a reality won't be easy. The ultra-wealthy and their loyalists in Congress are sure to put up strong opposition. So I'm counting on voices like yours to help me take this to the finish line.
You know as well as I do: the majority of Americans are sick and tired of paying what they owe while our country's wealthiest and well-connected keep cheating the system. We recognize both the urgent need and opportunity before us.
More soon,
Ron
