Hypocrisy at its finest
The Saudi regime is well known for its horrible human rights atrocities. And for years, the Saudi government has attempted to use sports to improve its tarnished international reputation in a practice known as sportswashing.
Just last year, I sounded the alarm on the Saudi government bankrolling the LIV Golf series hosted outside of my hometown of Portland, with $2 billion in investment from their sovereign wealth fund.
And just a few days ago, the PGA Tour announced a merger with Saudi-backed LIV Golf.
In fact, the details of this plan read more like a Saudi takeover than a merger, and raise more questions than answers. U.S. officials need to consider whether this deal will give the Saudi regime unprecedented and inappropriate control or access to American real estate, who will control the PGA's assets, and professional golf in the wake of this deal.
To make matters worse, under this deal and current tax laws, the Saudi Public Investment Fund will even get special tax treatment.
This is nothing more than a shameless cash grab, plain and simple.
For years, I've been sounding the alarm on the Saudi regime's penchant for abusing our laws on American soil, and its gross human rights violations abroad. This is no different. I'll be digging into every nook and cranny of this deal.
You can count on me to ask the tough questions. I won't be backing down.
More soon,
Ron
