They want Americans to suffer so billionaires can keep their tax cuts

The debt ceiling has been making headlines – so I wanted to take some time to explain what's going on.

Back in 2017, Republicans blew a $2 trillion hole in the deficit to give a tax handout to billionaires and corporations. I warned back then that Republicans would turn on working people and the middle class to pay for their tax giveaways, and unfortunately, now I'm being proven right.

To pay for their tax cuts, instead of making billionaires and corporations pay their fair share, Republicans in Congress want working families to foot the bill. They're gunning for everything from food assistance programs, to public education, veterans' benefits, and everything else in between.

Republicans are showing the American people their true colors – working overtime to slash taxes for their billionaire donors and taking food away from kids to pay for it, and threatening to force our country into default if Democrats don't support their scam to help the rich get richer.

Let me be clear: Republicans' plan is a nonstarter in the Senate. I will not support any legislation that makes it harder for vulnerable families to get the help they need.

Nothing unites Republicans like cutting taxes for the rich and forcing kids into poverty, but I know our movement is stronger.

I will not stop fighting with all my heart to protect American families from Republicans' schemes.
