My plan to combat the housing crisis
Our country is facing a housing crisis. Teachers, nurses, firefighters, and other hard-working Americans can't afford to buy homes. In fact, as many as 15 million Americans are spending more than half of their income to keep a roof over their heads. And more than half a million folks don't have a home at all.
It's past time to do something about it.
I have a plan to help get more people into homes and make housing more affordable for working Americans. Here's a quick rundown of what's in it:
→Increase the supply of affordable housing by strengthening our tax code to benefit middle-income folks and renters.
→Invest in underserved and low-income communities, ensuring everyone has access to stable and affordable housing.
→Down payment assistance to first-time home buyers, so the generation that has been locked out of homeownership can finally achieve its dreams of owning a home.
→Reduce homelessness by providing a roof over the head of our unhoused neighbors, and expand services so they can stay housed. The climb out of housing poverty is nearly impossible to do alone.
→Provide incentives for environmentally friendly land use and development policies as our communities continue to grow.
Housing is a human right. Everyone deserves to have a roof over their head.
This is an essential and ever-evolving conversation. We need everyone's voices. I want you to join the conversation on Facebook today.
I'm doing everything I can to combat this affordable housing crisis in Congress, and together, I know we can end it.
