For Republicans, the cruelty is the point
This week, we commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling in Roe v. Wade, which enshrined the right to abortion care nationwide. But for the first time in the 50 years since that ruling was handed down, women in America today have fewer rights than their grandmothers, all because of Donald Trump's hand-picked Court.
As states have moved to criminalize abortion, doctors are becoming wary, and women are suffering.
Patients aren't receiving the care they need because abortion rights are no longer federally protected. Hospitals are choosing to let women die rather than give them the care they need.
For decades, Democrats have been warning the country about what would happen if Republicans succeed in their plans to rip reproductive freedom away from women. Unfortunately, we're already being proved right: post-Roe America is dangerous for women.
If Republicans succeed in gaining more power in 2024, they will outlaw abortion nationwide, no matter the consequences. And they won't stop there. Top Republicans have already made it clear they intend to go after the right for married couples to use contraception and more.
There is so much at stake in this next election, and I know that our grassroots movement will be at the forefront, fighting to expand our blue majority and build on the progress we've made.
