A word about the House hearings
I still vividly remember being in the Capitol building during the insurrection on Jan 6, 2021. Our temple of democracy was defiled — windows shattered, furniture smashed, offices ransacked. We will always be in debt to our U.S. Capitol Police who proved themselves once again to be heroic defenders of the Republic on that day.
Let me be clear: this was an unprecedented attack on our democracy, the likes of which we have never seen before.
The House hearings on the January 6th insurrection are proving that it was worse than we feared. This was not a protest that got too "rowdy." It was a calculated and deliberate attempt to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.
Our democracy is fragile. It's clear that our slim majority in the Senate isn't enough.
Trump and his MAGA Republican cronies were determined to take back their power by force on that day. And many of those same extremists still serve in public office.
Like you, I remain absolutely horrified.
But I am also more determined than ever to defend our democracy from these attacks.
Because MAGA Republicans didn't go away when Trump left office. They've continued to push their lies about the 2020 election and do everything they can to cling to power.
This November, nothing less than the future of our democracy is on the ballot, and it is in danger. MAGA Republicans have made it clear their intention is to turn back the clock on progress if they gain the majority.
I'm counting on you.
