Reducing our dependence on foreign oil

The world is watching in horror as events unfold in Ukraine. Russia's unprovoked invasion is an affront to decency, democracy, and human rights.

I'm grateful for President Biden's leadership. He has united our allies in imposing aggressive sanctions on Russia that will weaken their war machine and weaken the oligarchy that feeds it.

Russia's unprovoked assault on Ukraine is also a stark reminder of the urgent need for the United States to reduce its dependence on foreign energy from tyrants like Putin, which is why I'm proud to be leading the fight in Congress to ban imports of Russian oil and gas.

Transitioning to a clean energy future is as much a national security issue as it is an environmental one. I'm fighting to make that a reality by overhauling our nation's outdated tax code to throw out tax breaks for Big Oil and replace them with incentives for renewable energy. Increasing America's clean energy production and weaning our country off of dirty fossil fuels will protect our families and our environment for generations to come.

It's time for energy independence from authoritarian regimes like Russia, Saudi Arabia, and from Big Oil. Congress needs to get serious about setting our country on the path to a clean energy future, and I'll be fighting tooth and nail to make that a reality.
