Big Oil doesn’t need or deserve our help.
For 100 years, our tax code has incentivized fossil fuels and dirty energy, granting massive tax breaks to history's worst polluters-for-profit.
That means that taxpayers – you and me – are paying Big Oil to aggravate the climate crisis. You know what would be a better use of our money? Anything.
To put it plainly: Bankrolling mega-corporations to poison our air and water while destabilizing global ecosystems is the wrong plan, and every day we leave this flawed system in place, the danger to our world grows.
At the root of the problem is our country’s outdated tax code, which is skewed in favor of the fossil fuel industry and rewards polluters for destroying our planet.
So where do we go from here? We need a tax code that works for working families and the climate, not special interests. We need to create incentives for clean energy, while creating good-paying jobs along the way.
And that’s just what I’m trying to do, because it’s time to get moving in the right direction. Here’s the plan:
- End tax subsidies for Big Oil and Coal.
- Transform the U.S. tax code to reward progress toward a clean energy future.
- Replace the confusing and uncertain energy incentives to reward clean energy, clean transportation, energy efficiency.
Simple. Clear. Permanent. And smart.
It’s past time – 100 years past time – to end tax giveaways for polluters and invest in a clean, sustainable future.
