What the American Rescue Plan means for Oregon
Today, Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan, which means crucial resources are on their way to the families and small businesses hit by the ongoing health and economic crises.
Today also marked exactly one year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. And in that year, Republican leadership resisted every effort to combat the virus, from wearing masks to passing relief legislation to social distancing, all in an effort to soothe Donald Trump's ego. In fact, as the WHO reported more infections and deaths, Republicans chose to quit the WHO rather than help suffering families.
Less than two months since Democrats took back our government, we stepped up and got it done.
The American Rescue Plan means that Oregonians will see nearly $5 billion in direct relief payments.
Nearly 780,000 Oregon children will benefit from expanded tax credits.
Oregon schools will receive more than $1 billion to make sure they can reopen safely and quickly.
Oregonians eligible for unemployment assistance will get expanded benefits through Labor Day to help make ends meet in these uniquely trying times.
And billions of dollars in relief for small businesses will revitalize our communities.
Together, we just delivered the boldest, most progressive rescue package in our nation's history. It's no exaggeration to say it's only possible because of progressive activists like you and movements like ours working for a blue Senate.
Honored to be at your side,
