A multi-faceted war on our health care

For almost three years, with the help of Republicans in Congress, Donald Trump has been trying to distract the American people with his tweets and temper tantrums from the real mission of the GOP: stealing health care away from millions of Americans.

Republican leaders still really, really want to take health care away from people, and they're mounting a multi-faceted war on our coverage.

Here are four attacks going on right now:

• Trump's Department of Health and Human Services is pushing a rule change that would allow health care providers and insurers to deny care and coverage to transgender Americans;

• State legislatures are passing brutal anti-choice laws and working to close clinics throughout the country;

• The Trump administration continues its efforts to allow health insurance corporations to offer "junk plans," which cover almost nothing, and are weighed down with massive out-of-pocket costs;

• William Barr and the Justice Department, along with several GOP Attorneys General, are stepping up their lawsuit to invalidate the Affordable Care Act as they prepare to appear in court on July 9.

That lawsuit – just a few weeks away – directly and immediately threatens the ACA. If Trump and his allies succeed, they'll take coverage away from 20 million people and strip away protections for the 131 million Americans with a pre-existing condition. Instantly.

We have to take back the Senate. The top priority of a Democratic Congress would be to expand coverage so that all Americans have access to the quality, affordable care they need.
