There's nothing strong about cozying up to dictators
Throughout Donald Trump's short political career, observers have labeled him a "political strongman" – an anti-democratic bully who confuses intolerance for toughness and ignorance for backbone.
That description fits, but there's nothing "strong" about Trump's fawning admiration of and cringing submission to dictators worldwide. In fact, his willingness to excuse their depravity and lawlessness jeopardizes America's strength.
That's why I've joined with my fellow Senators Martin Heinrich, Jack Reed, Chris Coons, and Kamala Harris, to demand the Trump administration provide a report identifying everyone responsible for the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi,up to and including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman (MBS).
And while it's ridiculous that we even need to require a sitting president to address the political assassination of an American resident, what's even more ridiculous is that he already has the answers.
I refuse to let Donald Trump get away with burying the horrifying facts of Jamal Khashoggi's murder. His desperate need for validation from tyrants is a danger to our safety, our freedom, and our values. We cannot, and will not, back down from the fight for the whole truth.
