Your data is out of your control
With convictions of Donald Trump's closest associates and revelations of campaign misdeeds coming almost daily, it's easy to miss equally important news.
This week, The New York Times reported that our phones are recording immense amounts of information about our whereabouts and activities – sometimes updating that information more than 10,000 times per day – on behalf of companies who then sell that information.
It's a stunning, troubling article, revealing that allowing an app about something as benign as the local weather can open us up to constant tracking.
That's why I've introduced the Consumer Data Protection Act. It's time to put the power back in the hands of Americans and make sure they have control over their data—and for corporate bad actors to be held accountable. I won't stop fighting to protect consumers from big data overreach.
