A Victory in the Opioid Battle
I wanted to update you on a recent victory in the huge battle against opioid addiction.
I'm proud to have helped pass a bipartisan package of bills to help people and families whose lives have been torn apart by the opioid crisis.
In June, I introduced the Helping to End Addiction and Lessen (HEAL) Substance Use Disorders Act of 2018 that includes improvements to Medicare and Medicaid, and human services programs. It passed unanimously.
I also co-authored the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, which will provide more prevention efforts, better treatment options for those struggling with opioid addiction, and additional grants to help communities.
This legislation takes an important step toward providing real solutions for Oregonians struggling with addiction and giving their families and friends hope that their loved ones will get the help they need.
The painful truth is that this problem isn't going away anytime soon.
I will continue working with my colleagues in Congress to tackle the roots of this crisis and ensure that all Oregonians have access to high quality, affordable treatment and prevention services.
