Tax Day is behind us, but the scam is just beginning

While millions of Americans were filing their tax returns, many had a rude awakening: The Trump tax cut isn't anything like what he promised.

For all of the talk about the magical benefits of their bill – Job growth! Higher wages! – it boils down to the same old tax scam: line the pockets of their billionaire funders and corporate titans, all at the middle class's expense.

So far in 2018, corporations have laid off 100,000 American workers – nearly 1,000 workers per day – while authorizing $250 billion in stock buybacks benefitting wealthy shareholders and executives.

Last week in Portland, I spoke with a group of small business owners who shared their concerns about the tax bill.

They spoke about rising health care premiums, reduced essential services, and less money in the pockets of the middle-class families who make up their customer base. The Trump tax scam will funnel huge piles of money to the wealthiest one percent and squeeze small businesses in Oregon more tightly than ever.

Every day, more Americans are seeing through empty promises and outright falsehoods. Our movement is growing.
