Promises, promises
Pop quiz. Who said this?
“Save Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security without cuts. Have to do it. Get rid of the fraud, get rid of the waste and abuse, but save it. People have been paying in for years, and now many of these candidates want to cut it.”
If you guessed Donald Trump, you’re right on.
Again and again, he made that promise at his rallies and on television. And millions of Americans voted for him based on that promise.
But no surprise – he seems to be changing his tune.
His transition team has scrubbed the promise from the Trump website. And more importantly, his pick for Health and Human Services Secretary, Rep. Tom Price, has made it his life’s work to cut Medicare and Medicaid.
Republicans in Congress are planning to raise the retirement age, end the Medicare promise of guaranteed benefits, cut millions in health care to Medicaid recipients, and put millions of Americans in fear that they won’t have health care when they or their loved ones need it.
Put simply, this is an attack on hard-fought benefits that working Americans earned.
It’s more important than ever that we raise our voices and stand up to defend Medicare and Medicaid. That’s why I've joined Sen. Elizabeth Warren and 19 of my colleagues urging him to protect the benefits that working Americans depend on.
We have a tough battle ahead.
Thanks for fighting with me.
