Fight or flight?
I'm honored by the trust and support Oregonians have placed in me to serve them in the U.S. Senate, and I'm humbled by the incredible outpouring of grassroots support in this election.
You, are a big part of our victory. Thank you.
This is a bittersweet moment. Despite our victory here in Oregon, it was a shocking result in the rest of the country, and one that is hard to take.
Look – many Americans are experiencing an anxious feeling of fight or flight. I understand that reaction.
I choose fight.
The work we do just got a lot more important. Every fight has new urgency. We are on the front lines, and it's going to be on us to stand up for our constitutional rights, for our people, for our neighbors, for our planet, for inclusion not division - because that is the Oregon way.
America has been through dark times before. Our democracy has been tested by wars and social change, and it has endured. This is when we show our mettle. When our core values are threatened, how we respond defines who we truly are.
This is our democracy, and it's up to us to defend it with everything we've got.
