Sign the Petition: A public option for health insurance.
The Affordable Care Act has made life better for millions of families, some of whom had gone years without seeing a doctor.
Obamacare was a step in the right direction – but it was just the first step in a long fight to make quality, affordable health care a reality for every American.
I voted two times to create a national public health insurance option in 2009 during the health care reform debate. I said at the time: we need a public option to hold private insurance companies accountable for cost and quality. Unfortunately, the measure failed both times.
Before the Affordable Care Act came to a final vote, I pushed hard to include a provision I wrote making it possible for states to create their own public option, and we won that fight. That provision goes into effect next year, which means states like Oregon will be able to start up their own insurance plan.
The recent news of insurance companies pulling out of health exchanges across the country makes the need for a public option more urgent than ever. Add your name as a public option supporter right now and let’s make it happen!
