Pharmaceutical rip-off artists

EpiPens save lives.

People susceptible to severe allergic reactions to things like bee stings carry self-injectable EpiPens wherever they go. It isn’t optional. It’s a matter of life and death.

Mylan, the dominant manufacturer of EpiPens, saw this as an opportunity to pump up profits and jacked up the price 500% earlier this year. Not because the cost of making and selling EpiPens went up 500% -- they did it to line their own pockets.

Not only did Mylan seek to gouge people who rely on EpiPens – they appear to have been fleecing all of us for decades by misclassifying the drug under a Medicaid rebate program and grossly underpaying Medicaid in the process, sticking taxpayers with the bill.

This is not OK. I’m working with my colleagues in the Senate and the Department of Health and Human Services to get to the bottom of this and hold Mylan accountable to the American people.

Stay tuned.
