RBG on Texas's anti-choice law

This is more than a single victory for reproductive rights.

This is a turning point.

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Texas law designed to shut down access to legal abortion by placing outrageous restrictions that have nothing to do with women's health on clinics and doctors. Other states have passed similar laws, putting safe, legal abortion services out-of-reach for so many women.

The Supreme Court's majority opinion clearly shows that the true intent and only outcome of these outrageous state laws is to restrict a woman's right to access safe, legal abortion -- and that these laws are unconstitutional.

As Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg put it in her written opinion: “…it is beyond rational belief that H.B. 2 could genuinely protect the health of women, and certain that the law ‘would simply make it more difficult for them to obtain abortions.’”

Despite this major win for women’s reproductive rights, the anti-choice extremists will keep at it. The campaign to smear and defund Planned Parenthood continues in Congress – and who knows what kind of absurd laws will crop up next.

I’m going to remain vigilant and keep up the fight to protect a woman's right to choose.
