Holding our country hostage…again.
Imagine federal law enforcement, TSA workers, air traffic controllers, and active-duty military service members working without pay. Imagine routine food and safety inspections diverted. Food stamps delayed and kids going hungry. Seniors and Americans with disabilities unable to get help with their Social Security benefits.
This is the reality our country will face if House Republicans get away with their stunt to shut down our federal government.
Once again, the most extreme Republican members of the House are holding our country hostage, refusing to agree to fund the federal government after funding runs out at the end of the month, just so they can jam their extremist agenda through Congress.
They're treating the American people like theoretical numbers on a spreadsheet — but the truth is, the fallout of a government shutdown would have very real consequences for millions of Americans.
Republicans are – yet again – driving our country and our economy to unimaginable chaos just for political gain.
This is the reality of Republicans in power. We cannot let them get away with it.
I'm outraged to see these extremists play such callous games with people's livelihoods and our economy. Democrats are ready to negotiate a bipartisan funding deal in good faith. Only time will tell if Kevin McCarthy is capable of getting his members to do the same.
I'm going to do everything in my power to keep shedding light on what a complete government shutdown will mean for families, and continue to advocate for a resolution to this Republican-induced crisis.
More soon,
Ron
